The UCI and its TV partner Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) Sports confirmed Monday that the UCI Track Champions League will not continue in 2025.
The retreat from the big bet on track cycling came after the four-year experiment to hype up racing on the boards never really quite caught on.
Officials had hoped to promote track cycling with a condensed, TV-friendly format to attract viewers to the sport going into the Paris Olympic Games.
Instead, the UCI will bring back the World Cup format going into the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, where track cycling remains a major medal event.
USA Cycling will race as gold medal defending champions on home boards in women’s team pursuit.
A new series will include three rounds, and feature the Olympic events as well as the elimination race, a format that is always very popular with the public, officials said Monday.

This will mean even fewer international-level racing opportunities for the world’s top track cyclists.
WBD Sports will still be involved in the newly branded track program, and will broadcast the events across its “mix of linear, social and digital platforms as well as Warner Bros. Discovery’s wider network,” officials said.
“With the continuation of our collaboration, which over the next three years will focus on coverage of the UCI Track World Cup, I am confident that track cycling will continue to grow in popularity, leading up to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games and beyond,” Lappartient said Monday.
The UCI is now calling for bids to organize the rounds of the 2026, 2027 and 2028 editions of the UCI Track World Cup.
The revised calendar for the new-look UCI Track World Cup will be announced after approval by the UCI Management Committee.
