Sargeant ‘stepping away’ from racing; cancels 2025 plans

Less than two months from the start of the 2025 European Le Mans Series, Logan Sargeant has departed IDEC Sport and has seemingly walked away from racing.

The former Williams Racing F1 driver joined IDEC Sport in December, as part of a program that is meant to prepare Korean automaker Genesis for the launch of its new LMDh prototype program in the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship. Sargent was due to share the car with Jamie Chadwick and Mathys Jaubert as part of Genesis’ 2025 ‘trajectory program.’

But today, IDEC Sport confirmed that Sargeant will not race for the team, saying: “Following the decision of Logan Sargeant to step away from the sport to pursue other interests, IDEC Sport and Genesis Magma Racing are taking note of his decision and will announce his substitute in the next few days. We wish Logan all the best in his projects.”

Sargeant, 24, made his Formula 1 debut in 2023 for Williams, becoming only the third American driver to race in F1 this century. He made 36 starts and scored his only championship point at the 2023 United States Grand Prix, before being released during the 2024 season.

In 2021, Sargeant made cameo appearances in ELMS and the Le Mans Cup series. He ran two ELMS races for TF Sport-supported Racing Team Turkey in LMP2, and made three starts in Le Mans Cup with Iron Lynx – where he won twice, at Paul Ricard and in Race 1 of the Road to Le Mans event.

Sargeant also tested an IndyCar for Meyer Shank Racing last October at The Thermal Club. Fatefully, Sargeant was also set to test for AJ Foyt Racing in October 2021, before cancelling the test to join the Williams Racing Academy and pursue his advancement to Formula 1.
