Premier League confirms financial compliance for 2023-24 season

The Premier League has announced that all 20 clubs were deemed financially compliant with profit and sustainability regulations (PSR) for the 2023-24 season. No teams have been charged with breaches, marking a positive outcome for the league’s top-tier members.

Clubs submit accounts without issues

Top-flight teams were required to submit their financial accounts by December 31, 2023, as part of the league’s regulatory framework. Following a thorough review, the Premier League confirmed that no clubs exceeded the PSR limits, which cap losses at £105 million over a three-year period.

This clean bill of financial health contrasts with the prior season, where some clubs faced disciplinary action.

Past breaches and appeals

Everton and Nottingham Forest faced sanctions in the 2022-23 season for surpassing permitted losses, receiving point deductions of eight and four, respectively. Meanwhile, Leicester City successfully appealed a similar charge.

An independent panel ruled that the Premier League could not penalize Leicester after their relegation to the EFL Championship, as their accounting period ended on June 30, 2023. The league’s jurisdiction over the matter was questioned, leading to an unresolved arbitration process between the two parties.

The Premier League’s statement reflects a significant step forward in financial compliance across the competition, emphasizing its commitment to upholding sustainable financial practices.
