Liverpool enter transfer race for Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen

Liverpool have entered the transfer race for highly-rated Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen.
Dean Huijsen, 19, has enjoyed a sensational rise in prominence since arriving at Bournemouth from Juventus last summer. The Amsterdam-born talent has forged a strong partnership with Illia Zabarnyi at the heart of the Cherries’ defence. His superb displays have gone unnoticed, with a host of Premier League vying for the teenager’s signature.
However, Real Madrid are also keeping tabs on the newly-capped Spanish international. As a result, Liverpool are reportedly set to battle Real Madrid for the signing of Dean Huijsen, who is under contract at the Vitality Stadium until 2030 and has a £50 million release clause that becomes active in July.
Liverpool are in desperate need for defensive reinforcements
Liverpool have been fantastic in Arne Slot’s debut season and are poised to win the Premier League title. They are leading Arsenal by 15 points and now need just 16 points from remaining nine games to clinch the Championship.
Having barely strengthened the squad in the past two windows, Arne Slot is expected to get back in the transfer market this time around. A central defender is an absolute priority, owing Virgil van Dijk coming to the end of his contract at Anfield in June.
Van Dijk has been a stalwart at Liverpool and him leaving the club would leave a huge void to plug for the Kirby chiefs. Even though if he decides to sign an extension ultimately, the Reds do need more competition and depth in the defensive ranks to compete for multiple trophies next season. And a young talent like Huijsen would be a fantastic fit at Liverpool.
At just 19, Huijsen has shown he’s got a calm and matured head with solid composure on the ball and game-reading skills. The one-cap Spanish international has a good turn of pace, something which is key in a defender to operate in Slot’s high defensive line. In addition, he is also an asset to have in both boxes due to his height, physicality and heading ability—having netted twice for Bournemouth.
Thus, it is not surprising that Huijsen has been put at the top of Madrid’s summer wishlist. That being said, Liverpool faces a challenge to beat Madrid to the signing of the Bournemouth defender, who possesses the potential to become one of the best in his position in the near future.
