Jonas Vingegaard is fully recovered from injury and has officially hit the gas on his build-up to July’s Tour de France rematch with Tadej Pogačar.

That’s the message that Visma-Lease a Bike telegraphed to the world after Vingegaard has been MIA for weeks while recovering from a concussion.

After an injury-plagued spring, the Danish dynamo insists he’s physically back on track and has all eyes on recapturing yellow.

“The focus is now fully on the Tour de France,” Vingegaard said Thursday. “The preparations for this race have truly begun. I no longer have any issues from the concussion I sustained earlier, or any other physical problems.”

After crashing out of Paris-Nice with a concussion and missing a planned start at the Volta a Catalunya, Vingegaard said he’s fully recovered and refocused on the season’s top goals.

“It was really unfortunate that I couldn’t finish Paris-Nice and also had to miss the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya,” Vingegaard said. “But now I’m training without any problems and will soon head to the altitude camp.”

Will it be enough to stay even with the seemingly unstoppable Pogačar?

Visma-Lease a Bike is hoping Vingegaard can stay upright and healthy to have the best chance possible of winning a third yellow tunic.

The two-time Tour winner is kicking off Tour preparations this week in the wind tunnel in Aalborg, Denmark.

“This week I was working in the wind tunnel. We made preparations for the Tour de France there, specifically focusing on my position on the bike,” Vingegaard said. “It’s important to work on that and to leave nothing to chance.”

The “Killer Bees” will need to be at the absolute peak of their game to take down Pogačar and a loaded UAE Emirates-XRG. And that’s not forgetting the rising challenge of Remco Evenepoel and Primož Roglič.

After another rough spring marked by injuries and underperformance in the spring classics, the team will be hoping the worse is behind them.

Last year, Vingegaard suffered horrendous injuries during a spill at Itzulia Basque Country only to fight back to win a stage and finish second to an imperious Pogačar in the 2024 Tour.

Things started off on a strong note with victory at the Volta ao Algarve, but Vingegaard crashed heavily at Paris-Nice, and abandoned with a concussion.

After a recovery period, the Dane is looking to make up for lost time.

‘I’ll try to win Dauphiné and the Tour’

He won’t race again until the Critérium du Dauphiné, and will split his time between training camps and spells at altitude in a run-up to the Tour.

Vingegaard will mix in altitude camps, heading next to Spain’s Sierra Nevada with key teammates, before a return to racing in France in June.

“I’m really looking forward to racing again. I haven’t raced much this past year, so I’m eager to get started again. That goes for both the Critérium du Dauphiné and, of course, the Tour de France,” he said. “But first, I’ll go to altitude training to get in shape. After that, I’ll try to win those races.”

Visma will also unveil a special-edition kit for the Tour on April 25, signaling that the Dutch squad is once again going all-in on cycling’s biggest race.
