iGPSPORT Smart Bike Lights

iGPSPORT is probably a company a lot of PEZ readers don’t know about (unless you’re a reader in Asia or someone who is familiar with Asian brands). But they’ve been around for a while. They introduced their first bike computer in 2012 with new models ever since. In 2023, they introduced their first smart sport watch. And in 2024, 4-time TdF winner (as well as having won the Vuelta twice and Giro once — so one of only seven riders to have won all three Grand Tours), Chris Froome, became an iGPSPORT brand ambassador.

iGPSPORT also makes bike lights and PEZ got their VS1200S Smart Front Light and SR mini Smart Radar Taillight to try out.

VS1200S Smart Front Light – $59.90

According to iGPSPORT:

  • 108 x 30 x 29 mm
  • 160 grams
  • 1200 lumens max brightness
  • 150 meter clear range
  • 4000 mAh battery
  • 2.5 hour charging time
  • 3-70 hour battery life
  • 1.2 meter drop resistance height
  • IPX6 waterproof

Slightly heavier than spec weight (iGPSPORT doesn’t say if their spec weight includes the mounting band, which could account for the 5 extra grams)

SR mini Smart Radar Taillight – $79.90

According to iGPSPORT:

  • 77 x 37 x 19 mm
  • 50 grams
  • 30 lumens
  • 1.2 kilometer visible range
  • 220 degree light visibility angle
  • 20 hour battery life
  • IPX7 waterproof
  • Always on/breathing/daytime flash/night flash/single radar mode
  • 160 meter radar detection distance
  • 4-110 km/hr radar detection speed

A few grams lighter than spec weight

Chuck Peña PEZ sez:  As these are smart lights, they are intended to be used in tandem with one of iGPSPORT’s bike computers that are compatible with their smart lights (PEZ got their newest BiNavi bike computer to test but that will be for a subsequent review and I’ll be able to comment more about integration then). So my initial take is using these more as “dumb” lights. So consider this more of a preview rather than in-depth review.

VS1200S attaches via a quarter-turn mount. Attached to the included handlebar mount, it can be positioned either above or below the handlebar (but not going to work with integrated stem/handlebars).

Or if your out-front bike computer mount has a GoPro mounting point, you can attach the quarter-turn mount to that

Operation of the VS1200S is fairly straightforward:

  • First, fully charge the light (the green light on the on/off button will blink while charging and be steady green when fully charged)
  • Long press (~1.5 seconds) the on/off button to turn the light on
  • Short press to toggle between brightness levels
  • Double press to change from steady to flashing (or vice versa)
  • Long press to turn the light off

Green arrow: on/off button. Yellow arrow: USB-C charging port.

As a “regular” front light, the VS1200S is plenty bright. At its brightest 1200 lumens, it’s essentially the equivalent of a car headlight in high beam mode. Although I don’t ride at night down in the Lowcountry (because there isn’t a lot of ambient street lighting), it’s bright enough to light up the darkness. If I was back up in Babylon on the Potomac and riding in an urban environment, the VS1200S projects a beam far enough ahead and wide enough to both sides that I would be be able to see what I need to see riding at sane speeds. And 1200 lumens is bright enough to be seen by oncoming traffic. As a front daytime running light, the day flash mode is half as bright at 600 lumens — combined with the flash pattern, it’s definitely noticeable in daylight.

The SR mini also attaches via a quarter-turn mount. But instead of a seat post mount, it comes with a mount that attaches to the saddle rails.

Operation of the SR mini is similar to the VS1200S:

  • Long press the on/off button to turn the light on
  • Short press to toggle between the different modes
  • Long press the on/off button to turn the light off

Green arrow: USB-C charging port

The SR mini works for me as a bright enough daytime blinky light to help drivers take notice. Riding solo, I use the Day Flash mode that’s 25 lumens with repeating triple flashes for maximum effect. But IMHO it’s a little blinding for group riding, so I found either the High Brightness Steady (12 lumens) or Medium Brightness Steady (6 lumens) easier on my riding partners’ eyes depending on whether it’s bright sunlight or more cloudy/overcast skies. If I was night riding, the Night Flash, Comet Flash, and Waterfall Flash all provide bright at night light with noticeable patterns to attract drivers’ eyes.

Green arrow: on/off button

I said at the top that the VS1200S and SR mini were smart lights. One aspect of that is that you can download the iGPSPORT app to control them rather than using the on/off button. I’m not going to go over all the ins and outs, but here are some screen shots to give you some idea of what the app can control:

So one cool thing I discovered just playing around with the app is that you can create custom light settings/patterns for both the VS1200S and SR mini. Given my above comment about the the SR mini for group riding, I used the ability to create a custom setting that I thought would be noticeable enough for cars but wouldn’t blind riders behind me:

Another thing I was able to do with iGPSPORT app was easily connect the SR mini radar detection function to two different non-iGPSPORT head units (Hammerhead Karoo and Coros Dura) to be able to take advantage of the unit’s car detection safety feature. (NOTE: the connection is ANT+.) As a former bike courier, I’m fairly comfortable riding in traffic/with cars, but being more aware of cars (especially without having to turn my head) is always a safety plus.

Double-click the on-off button to toggle the radar on (blue light) or off (green light)

Overall, I’m impressed with the VS1200S (if you need something brighter and with a few more smart features, check out the VS1800S) and SR mini lights. Not only are they functional and high tech, they’re also very competitively priced to similar products in the market. (NOTE: I’m not sure if and how any proposed tariffs will affect pricing.) I’m really looking forward to full integration of the lights when I test the iGPSPORT BiNavi. Stay tuned!

Rapha Men’s Pro Team Bib Shorts and Training Jersey
Rapha probably changed the world of cycle clothing back in 2004. The company was started in London in early 2004 by Simon Mottram and Luke Scheybeler. The name Rapha was taken from the 1960s cycling team Rapha, named after the apéritif drink company Saint-Raphaël. They have supplied clothing to Team Sky, Canyon-SRAM and now the EF Education First men’s and women’s teams. Their latest release for 2025 in the Men’s Pro Team Bib Shorts III, we matched them up with the Pro Team Training Jersey.

Rapha 2025
At last the weather is getting better

Rapha Men’s Pro Team Bib Shorts III
Alastair Hamilton PEZ sez: ‘Green is the new black’ or something. Green is not my favourite colour, not just for cycling clothes, but for just about everything. That said, it is starting to grow on me with this kit. Rapha is yet another top brand that I have never used before, obviously I had seen the kit and knew all about the company’s story, but I’ve never worn and ridden in any of their clothing.

Rapha 2025
‘RAPHA’ in white on the left leg

I knew the bib shorts would be top quality, and they are. The seems and stitching is perfectly done and the design and fit is great. Easy to say, but I’ve seen enough kit over the years (too many years), to see when something has been well thought through, designed and made to a high standard. Yes, you have to pay for quality, but Rapha isn’t the most expensive kit on the market any more, there are a handful of other top-end clothing manufacturers out there in the same bracket. OK, back to the bibs. It was the small details that hit me the most. Mesh on the back and the sides of the bib for breathability, the shaped panels, the non-aggressive leg grippers, the comfortable, wide straps and the white ‘RAPHA’ on one leg and the matching green ‘RAPHA’ on the other leg.

Rapha 2025
Lots of padding in the correct places

Then there is also the seat pad, or ‘chamois’: You can feel the padding is in two sections for the thicker parts, but there is a thinner layer across the whole pad. I thought it might be too much, especially between the legs, but once on the saddle, you could feel the cushioning was in the correct position. There is also a thinner, but still padded section at the front, so no chaffing of the gentleman’s parts. The Rapha bibs passed the Zwift test without any problems, both on a smooth saddle and a 3D Printed saddle.

Rapha 2025
A contrasting ‘RAPHA’ on the right leg

The bibs I have the longer leg, not my choice, but you can wear them long or pull them a little higher for us ‘old school’ types. The leg length is a choice thing, but if you have that extra length you can use it… or not. The panelling is different from other bibs at the front, which feels very comfortable, as the shape fits more naturally. You can see the shape due to the darker thread used on the panel joints. As mentioned before, the leg gripper is very comfortable. The bib straps are comfortable and strong, with extra strength section at the lower back and the shape will suit everyone, also the use of a mesh material will be great for the warmer weather, when it comes. One question: If they are ‘Pro Team’ bibs, why is there no radio pocket?

Rapha 2025
Comfort and a great fit

My Thoughts on the Bib Shorts: You should expect a top item of clothing from a top brand and the Rapha Pro Team Bib Shorts don’t disappoint. I would say they are a luxury item of cycling clothing and come at a price, they are around the €260 mark (check the Rapha website for local prices), which is not cheap, but average for the top brands.

Rapha 2025
Style in green

Rapha Men’s Pro Team Training Jersey
The ‘Pro Team’ jersey is also in green, two-tone, with a darker shade on the back and side panels. The material used on the front and sleeves is a more open weave, with the rear made from a closer weave. Both materials will take the sweat away and keep you cool. There is a small collar, which is double thickness, as is the edge of the sleeves. A full zip with flap on the inside and ‘zip house’ at the neck.

Rapha 2025
A proper collar

Rapha 2025
Strengthened pocket stitching and training instructions

The jersey has my ‘must have’ small zip pocket on the right side of the three rear pockets. It’s just so handy for loose change and a card, safe and handy. The three pockets are double stitched with extra strengthening patches on the inside of the jersey and an elastic strip on the inside of the pocket tops. There is also extra material at the bottom of the pockets for expansion, I don’t think I’ve seen this detail in other jerseys, normally they are stitched flat. Bellow the pockets there is an elastic gripper strip to keep everything in place. The logos are quite subtle, with ‘RAPHA’ at an angle on the left sleeve and their six lines on the middle rear pocket and on the zip flap.

Rapha 2025
Zip pocket

My Thoughts on the Jersey: Like the bibs, the jersey is comfortable and very well designed and made. You can feel the quality of the materials and the care that has gone into the manufacture. The price (€135) isn’t over the top for one of the top clothing brands. There are nine other colour variations available, so something for everyone.

Rapha 2025
Camouflage?

My Overall Opinion: Top quality kit and spending more money on the shorts than the jersey makes sense as the shorts are the most important part of your clothing, probably along with your shoes. Everything has been well made and, barring accidents, should last a long time. The colour is subtle and so are the logos. There is an overall look and feeling of class and not ‘in your face’ style. If you have the money and like the Rapha ethic, then why not?

Rapha 2025
Well designed pockets

POC Unveils Brand-New Road and Mountain Bike Helmets
New POC helmets ranked #1 for mountain and road helmets in VA Tech independent testing process.

POC 2025

POC, the Swedish protection brand known for its reputation for safety, innovation and design, is releasing two brand-new helmets: Cytal, a new road helmet with an integrated wing and unique performance balance, and Cularis, an MTB trail helmet that brings a new meaning to cooling and safety.

The Cytal and Cularis, both entirely new developments, will complement POC’s range of award-winning road and mountain bike helmets and lead out POC’s new 2025 Cycling season collection.

Commenting on the new Cytal and Cularis, POC’s Chief Product Officer, Oscar Huss, said – “Our safety mission is crystal clear, and it inspires us to improve and constantly question the status quo. We know how to develop highly ventilated, comfortable, aerodynamic and highly protective helmets; with the Cytal and Cularis, we wanted to challenge ourselves to take another step forward. In particular, we wanted to integrate more of our real-world testing and research knowledge to refine details and enhance helmet performance. And the Cytal and Cularis are a true embodiment of this approach.”

POC 2025

CULARIS
Cularis (right) is a trail-focused mountain bike helmet. It is built on a rich heritage of POC mountain bike helmets, especially Tectal and Kortal. Cularis maintains the well-known POC silhouette and head coverage, which ensures riders are suitably protected during trail riding. In addition, it is a helmet that encourages significant airflow and cooling, a process that has been inspired by CFD analysis and many of POC’s highly ventilated road helmets.

Cularis is designed for trail riders looking for incredible ventilation and light weight. Combined with seamlessly integrated details, such as a Mips Air node, Fidlock buckle, precise adjustment system, eye garage, and a break-away peak, it is a mountain bike helmet that will enhance your protection and help you go the distance.

POC 2025

Product details:

  • Ventilation — Inspired by the ventilation performance of POC’s World Tour road helmets, Cularis has been created with the same focus on capturing air at the front of the helmet and channelling it to make a highly ventilated and cool helmet. CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) has been used in the development process to fine-tune and optimize air flow and cooling
  • Protection — The essence and foundation of any trail helmet is safety. Cularis has an optimized shape, a precise EPS liner, and a polycarbonate shell, creating a lightweight, balanced feeling optimized for angled and linear impact protection. It has been tested by Virginia Tech and achieves a five-star rating and (as of March 2025) is ranked as the number one helmet in all helmets tested
  • Mips Air Node — A seamlessly integrated Mips Air Node system enhances protection from angled (non-linear) impacts
  • Break-Away peak — POC introduced the ‘Break-Away’ peak, designed to fly off the helmet in the case of a fall, being caught by a branch, etc. The principle is that the peak avoids any transfer of forces or risk to the neck and allows the peak to be reattached and reused
  • Eye garage — Common for road cycling and gravel, the Cularis features an integrated eye garage for storing eyewear when not needed. As Cularis is designed for trail use, a perfect example of using the eye garage is during a long climb or when the weather gets darker
  • Fidlock — To enhance simplicity and facilitate one-handed use, the Cularis features a Fidlock buckle, which is practical and convenient
  • Adjustment system — Comfort will always be one of the most important aspects of any helmet. Being able to fine-tune a fit to meet individual preferences is essential and enhances use and protection. The Cularis has a 360-degree adjustment system, adjustable straps (up, down, side to side), and a vertical adjustment on the rear cradle
  • Weight — Small: 360g / Medium: 350g / Large: 430g
  • Certification — CPSC/CE/EN/AS/NZS
  • Sizes — Small (51-54), Medium (55-58), Large (59-62)
  • Price — $240

POC 2025

CYTAL
Influenced by Cytal Carbon, which is currently used by many EF Pro Cycling riders, the Cytal uses all the pioneering aerodynamic and ventilation knowledge developed from Cytal Carbon and adds a refined balance and enhanced protection.

Developed to establish a new benchmark in performance, the Cytal uses an integrated wing to enhance ventilation and aerodynamics. Designed for road and gravel riders, it’s a helmet constructed for a precise and unique balance in performance and protection.

POC 2025

Product details:

  • Ventilation — The Cytal continues to use the Venturi effect, POC’s well-known and respected approach to airflow and ventilation in its helmets. The integrated wing creates superior ventilation and cooling across the whole head. To encourage airflow and create precise pressure zones inside the helmet, the wing has a precise shape that increases air velocity and enhances cooling. Combined with the linear interior channels to guide airflow, vast amounts of air pass through and out of the helmet, all cooling the rider in the process
  • Aerodynamics — Ventilation and cooling are essential for modern performance, as is aerodynamics, and the Cytal has benefitted from POC’s extensive CFD simulation, wind tunnel, and real-world testing. The integrated wing supports larger frontal ports of precise size and angles. It allows the Cytal frontal air intakes to capture and lead air through the helmet instead of around it, significantly reducing the high-pressure zone at the front of the helmet and improving a rider’s aerodynamic profile
  • Protection — Safety is the main role of a helmet, and the Cytal has been developed with this as its priority. The EPS liner has variable density across the helmet, which was created by heat map evidence analyzed by POC’s in-house tech and research team. It’s an approach that leads to a lightweight and naturally balanced helmet. It also supports enhanced protection, and the Cytal has been tested by Virginia Tech and has achieved a five-star rating. (As of March 2025, it is ranked as the number one road helmet and number three in all helmets tested.)
  • Mips — A seamlessly integrated Mips Air Node system enhances protection from angled (non-linear) impacts
  • Fit system — It is essential to be able to fine-tune a fit to meet individual preferences. The Cytal has a variable adjustment system, including removable front brow pads for enhanced ventilation, adjustable straps (up, down, side to side), and a vertical adjustment on the rear cradle
  • Eye garage — The eye garage keeps your sunglasses securely in position, including at speed, when placed on the helmet
  • Sizes — Small (50-56), Medium (54-59), Large (56-61)
  • Weight and certification: CE/EN: Small: 250g / Medium: 270g / Large: 300g; CPSC: Small: 300g / Medium: 320g / Large: 340g; AS/NZS: Small: 260g / Medium: 280g / Large: 300g
  • Price — $330

POC 2025

Safety Technology and Research – The POC Process
POC continuously pushes beyond conventional testing to refine helmet performance using real-world data. POC’s Tech and Research team employs advanced tools such as:

  • Finite Element Method (FEM) modeling to simulate real-world crash forces
  • The Cube, an internal database containing nearly a million real-world data points
  • Collaborative studies with safety experts, including Volvo, Autoliv and Folksam, to assess various scenarios, i.e. helmet-to-car impacts
  • In-house video analysis, a technique pioneered in World Cup level ski racing, to study actual crash dynamics

POC 2025

Our studies directly shape product design — CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) optimizes airflow in the Cularis, while FEM (Finite Element Method) modelling enhances safety and comfort in the Cytal.

By designing helmets that can manage greater forces, typically seen in elite sports, we can better protect elite athletes. The positive benefit of this research and approach is that everyday riders will typically benefit from the safety margin typically built into POC helmets.

In commenting on POC’s approach to tech and research, Oscar Huss said, “By using the evidence and data from our tech and research projects, we can better understand real-world scenarios and forces. Developing products designed to better manage real-world impacts is critical, but equally important is that helmets, like Cularis and Cytal, are highly ventilated, aerodynamic, lightweight, and comfortable. And that’s the optimal balance our process and experience bring.”

POC 2025

Availability:

  • The Cytal will be available to buy at www.poc.com and in selected stores and online starting March 25, 2025.
  • The Cularis will be available to buy at www.poc.com and in selected stores and online starting at the end of March 2025.
