Welcome to Velo’s Taipei Cycle Show coverage, where we share our favorite things we’ve found at the 2025 show. Bikes, components, accessories, and more: if we think it’s cool, you’ll see it. See the rest of our coverage here.

There is no shortage of carbon wheel options at the Taipei Cycle Show. There are more skilled carbon product producers than ever, meaning wheelsets are cheaper and easier to make. That doesn’t stop companies from coming out with unique carbon road wheel designs, however. Vision’s new Metron RS wheels top the list by offering a 60 mm rim depth wheelset that weighs just 1390 grams, but a beautiful wheelset from Aviiav features a Mother of Pearl finish using real abalone shells too.

Winspace also cut a massive 200 grams of weigh to make its new Hyper Light wheelset, while Goosynn has developed a take on the Berd-like fiber spokes. Oh, and I found an eight-spoke carbon wheelset sized perfectly for a Brompton folding bike. Weight weenies come in all shapes and sizes, after all.

Vision recently released a new top-tier iteration of its Metron road race wheel called the Metron RS. We covered the wheelset more here if you’re curious, but new wheels come in at just under 1300 grams for the 45 mm wheelset, and 1400 grams for the 60 mm wheelset. (Photo: Alvin Holbrook/Velo)

The Metron RS wheels lopped nearly 100 grams from the previous Metron SL wheels thanks largely to the use of carbon fiber spokes. (Photo: Alvin Holbrook/Velo)

In addition, the new wheels get a hooked rim with 23 mm internal width. Metron 45 RS wheels offer a 31 mm external width, while Metron 60 RS rims come in an impressive 33 mm width. (Photo: Alvin Holbrook/Velo)
Aviiav jagae mother of pearl wheelset at taipei cycle show 2025-1
It was love at first sight when we saw the Korea-based Aviiav release its Jagae (Mother of Pearl) wheelset. Well, its ready for production, weighing in at just 1350 grams despite using real abalone shell in its finish. (Photo: Alvin Holbrook/Velo)

You read that right. Traditional mother of pearl uses abalone shell to get its sheen, and Aviiav has done the same for its unique finish. Expect a limited release later this spring 2025. (Photo: Alvin Holbrook/Velo)

We thought Berd was the main company touting the benefits of fabric spokes. Goosyn has a new wheelset its set to release, and it too uses fiber spokes. (Photo: Alvin Holbrook/Velo)

To be fair, Goosyn’s fiber spokes use a straight pull style spoke end to attach to straight pull hubs. (Photo: Alvin Holbrook/Velo)

Winspace’s Lun wheel brand is set to launch the Hyper Light wheelset. It’s 45 mm rim width up front (and 55 mm rear) weigh in at a claimed 1250 grams, about 200 grams lighter than the standard Hyper 45 wheelset. (Photo: Alvin Holbrook/Velo)

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a carbon spoke wheel design like this before. But this IS the first time I’ve seen these wheels sized from a 700c size to a 16-inch Brompton-friendly wheelset. These wheels are called the Ridea Prism Wing and weigh just 1080 grams for the 16-inch size. (Photo: Alvin Holbrook/Velo)

Quick shoutout to the Brompton here, if only for its matchy-match anodizing. (Photo: Alvin Holbrook/Velo)
