Chelsea are reportedly still working on a transfer deal for Sporting Lisbon youngster Dario Essugo, while everything is more or less in place for Geovany Quenda to join.

The Blues are working on signing Essugo next, with Fabrizio Romano citing the west London giants’ positive relationship with Sporting after completing a deal for Quenda.

“If you ever think about doing something like that again, your backside will be OUT that door before it touches the ground!” – which former Man Utd star almost got kicked out by Fergie?

It was reported by A Bola earlier today that Chelsea had also agreed a deal for Essugo, but Romano’s latest update suggests it’s not quite a done deal yet.

Chelsea clearly plan to continue investing in the best young talents in world football, which has been their model under the ownership of Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.

How well is Chelsea’s transfer model working?

Chelsea fans will have mixed feelings about the new approach their club has been taking in the last few years, as it’s very different from what they were used to in the Roman Abramovich era.

For many years, CFC were a big success as they signed numerous proven world class players for big money, but now they’re aiming to build more of a sustainable long-term project.

Chelsea fans will have to be patient to see if that ends up delivering silverware, with the trophies yet to come under this new regime.

Some signings like Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez have worked out well, but there have also been a few flops in there.

Nico Jackson, Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk haven’t lived up to expectations, but there are a few more exciting prospects on their way.

Quenda and Essugo will be joining South American talents Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez at Stamford Bridge.
