Arsenal set sights on Deportivo La Coruna sensation Yeremay Hernandez

Arsenal are keeping tabs on Deportivo La Coruna sensation Yeremay Hernandez ahead of a possible summer swoop.

Yeremay Hernandez

Having been a part of the Deportivo La Coruna academy since 2017, Yeremay Hernandez, 22, grew up through the ranks and made his senior debut back in December 2021. He has not looked back since, racking up 89 appearances thus far. The Spaniard has been in sensational form this season, racking up 11 goals and four assists in 30 appearances in the Segunda division.

Hernandez’s performances in the La Liga 2 have not gone unnoticed. Arsenal are reportedly keen to bring him to the Emirates Stadium but face competition from London rivals Fulham. The Premier League would be an enticing destination for the 22-year-old forward, who is valued at £30million by Deportivo.

Yeremay Hernandez wanted by Arsenal

Arsenal look set to finish second in the Premier League for yet another season, with the North Londoners falling short to Liverpool as opposed to Manchester City, as they have in recent years. Much has been spoken about the lack of a clinical goalscorer in their ranks.

Both Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus showcased inconsistent form before suffering season-ending injuries. As a result, Mikel Arteta has been forced to use Mikel Merino as a makeshift striker, which has brought mixed outcome over the past few weeks. So, signing a ruthless No.9 has to be Arsenal’s No.1 target this summer. In addition, it looks as though they are also targeting a winger.

This is perhaps down to Bukayo Saka missing a large chunk of the season with a hamstring injury and Raheem Sterling returning to Chelsea after the expiry of his loan spell. This makes reinforcements in wide areas an absolute must, and Yeremay Hernandez has emerged as a target for the Gunners.

Hernandez has established himself as one of the most promising wingers in Spanish football outside La Liga. Technically sound with vision and effectiveness to finish off chances from in and around the box, the Canary Islands native has been highly productive for Deportivo this season.

At 22, the winger may feel ready to make the step up from Deportivo and join a club in the top flight that would provide him with more recognition and the platform to develop further. A move to Arsenal would make sense, allowing Hernandez to showcase his skill set and potential at the highest level and push for a place in Luis de la Fuente’s Spain squad.

All in all, Arsenal must not hesitate to push for Hernandez’s signature as he appears a young, exciting and dynamic option to improve their wide areas next season.
