The Magpies are fighting to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League next term. They are sixth in the table, only two points behind fourth-place Chelsea. In addition to keeping hold of key players such as Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes, they have to spend well in the summer to further improve the squad.

It looks like Eddie Howe wants to bolster the attacking unit of his squad. Marseille’s in-form speedster Luis Henrique has reportedly emerged as a target for Newcastle United, although Eddie Howe’s side face competition from Nottingham Forest and Everton for his signature.

Henrique, 23, has been brilliant for Marseille this season, bagging nine goals and six assists in all competitions. The Brazilian has established himself as a key player for the French side, operating as right-sided midfielder and on the left flank under Roberto de Zerbi. His contributions have been key as De Zerbi’s side currently lie second in the Ligue 1 table.

Newcastle want Marseille star Luis Henrique

Alexander Isak has been scoring goals for fun this season. Regarded as one of the best strikers in Europe, the Swede has been ruthless in front of goal and formed a dynamic partnership with wingers Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy.

Both Gordon and Murphy have been productive in the final third as well as tormenting defences with their pace, directness and unpredictability. However, with Miguel Almiron sold to MLS side Atlanta United during the January transfer window, the Toon Army lack quality depth beyond Gordon and Murphy with Harvey Barnes spending major chunks of the campaign on the sidelines.

Thus, the Tyneside-based club’s interest in Luis Henrique makes complete sense. A wide attacker capable of also operating as a wing-back, Henrique could prove to be an ideal acquisition for Howe’s side. He will be able to fill the gap left by Almiron whilst bringing competition for Gordon and Murphy. The South American will add creativity, flair, dynamism, versatility and goals to this Newcastle team.

Technically gifted and tactically sound, the 23-year-old could form a strong partnership with Isak and Gordon in the final third. As for Henrique, he could be attracted by the prospect of playing in the Premier League and stepping up in his career by joining Howe’s exciting project at St James’ Park.

However, with Forest and Everton also vying for Henrique’s signature, Newcastle must up their ante in the pursuit of the Marseille star if they intend to get him ahead of the 2025/26 season.
